You cannot use styling products if you have dandruff

Dealing with dandruff may be a significant annoyance, and those who suffer from chronic flakiness understand that finding the perfect cure requires a lot of trial and error. The beauty market is inundated with hundreds of products, ranging from at-home tricks to prescription-strength treatments, all promising to permanently eliminate dandruff. But are these magical cures causing more damage than good?

Yes. Certain chemicals stress your scalp, causing it to produce more flakes rather than less. And these compounds are more prevalent than you would expect. Shampoo and conditioner, as well as mousse and hairspray, may contain drying substances that aggravate flakiness and irritation. If you have dandruff, you should avoid these six-ingredient hair products in your hair regimen.

The Building Issue

We use gels, mousses, hairsprays, and waxes to style and hold your hair in place. Unfortunately, if styling products are not properly removed, they accumulate over time, trapping oil, grime, and other contaminants close to your skin. These will degrade over time, forming new chemicals that may irritate your scalp. If you already have dandruff, this can cause itching and flaky skin.

The key to preventing buildup is to fully wash the product out with shampoo regularly. That’s why we created deep cleaning shampoos like our Instant Oil Control Shampoo, which not only relieves dandruff but also provides a deep clean to remove any build-up.

Common Dandruff Ingredients to Avoid

Hair styling products consist of several ingredients which lead to dandruff. So, if it is compulsory for you to use a hair styling product then try to use the products without these ingredients.

  1. Parabens

Parabens are a primary cause of scalp inflammation. These synthetic compounds are frequently employed as preservatives, preventing bacterial growth in shampoos and conditioners. These chemicals, however, might irritate your scalp and have been linked to hair loss. Not ideal for people who suffer from severe dandruff and discomfort.

Furthermore, a new study indicates that parabens may play a role in the development of certain breast cancers. So, if at all possible, avoid these chemicals.

  1. Sulphates

Sulphates are another prevalent component that should be avoided. ALS and SLS sulphates are frequently employed to aid in the blending of a product’s chemical constituents. These compounds are responsible for the sudsy, foamy texture of any wonderful bath product. However, sulphates are also to blame for a lot of scalp and strand damage. These chemicals deplete your hair of essential natural oils, leaving your scalp vulnerable to bacterial accumulation and excessive dryness. Sulphates, as a result, aggravate skin disorders such as dandruff and psoriasis.

  1. Silicone

Silicone is found in a variety of shampoos, conditioners, and styling products. It’s used to seal the cuticle for lustrous, smooth hair. Silicones, such as dimethicone, can clog your pores, causing scalp discomfort, flake buildup, and hair loss. Thank you very much. One of the biggest causes of dandruff is product accumulation, so avoid silicones if possible.

  1. Sodium Chloride

Salt, yes. Some shampoos and conditioners, believe it or not, use this culinary garnish as a thickener. However, sodium chloride dehydrates your skin, scalp, and hair strands. It is not recommended if you have a dry scalp.

  1. Synthesised Fragrances

While we enjoy freshly perfumed shampoo or conditioner, we are sceptical of products that include synthetic fragrances. “Fragrance” is an umbrella term encompassing hundreds of thousands of synthetic chemicals that might harm your hair and scalp. Allergens and drying agents, such as alcohol, can enter these sweet-smelling molecules, worsening flakiness and triggering severe skin reactions. So, for the time being, stick to natural smells.

  1. Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a chemical component used in many hair products, including keratin treatments. This carcinogen is employed as a product preservative, however, it can be harmful if absorbed via the skin or inhaled during a chemical hair treatment. Formaldehyde has been linked to scalp discomfort and, in rare situations, serious topical allergic reactions. When it comes to dandruff, this is a no-no.

Summing Up

So, we have come to the end of our article. Today, we all somehow use artificial hair styling products which contain several chemicals. It is advisable not to use hair styling products if you have dandruff as the chemical inside them will help dandruff to spread and make your mood irritated.
Sometimes you can use these chemical hair styling products to showcase yourself well. But. don’t use it every day. Resolve your dandruff issue, if you don’t know how you can click here and read our posts on resolving dandruff.
