What are the chances that I get back dandruff?

Are you worried about the dandruff issue? Does it keep coming back even after it has been treated? Are you tired of trying home remedies and still experiencing dandruff?

If you have these questions, then this blog is for you.

Dandruff is more prevalent these days due to changes in the climate, food, and lifestyle. It affects people of all ages, sex, and ethnicity. There is a reason why this condition re-occurs even after it has been treated. Now, to know that reason, first, let’s understand how and why it manifests.

What is dandruff and how does it manifest?

Scalp scales, excessive flakiness, scalp redness, and, in severe cases, thick crusts on the scalp are some of the most common symptoms of dandruff. When mild, it may not cause any symptoms, but when moderate to severe, it may cause a shower of flakes, irritation, dryness, redness, and lumps on the scalp.

Regardless of how widespread it may be, dandruff carries some social stigma in the form of decreased self-esteem and social humiliation. It is widely known that keratinocytes are essential for the expression and creation of immune responses during the development of dandruff.

The cause of dandruff is the yeast Malassezia, which is present on the scalp. When dandruff on the scalp occurs, the colonization of dandruff fungus increases by 1.5 to 2 times the normal count. The natural oils found in our scalps, known as sebum, are essential for feeding the bacterium that causes dandruff. Dandruff begins when Malassezia feeds on these oils and breaks them down into byproducts like oleic acid.

The quick answer to frequently asked questions like, “is there a cure for dandruff?” and “how to cure dandruff?” is “no” because dandruff is a recurring issue that won’t be permanently eliminated by one-time therapy. This is due to the fact that Malassezia globosa (dandruff fungus), a microorganism that is constantly present on the scalp, is what causes it.

So here you get your answer to why dandruff keeps coming back.

Here are 5 things you need to know about dandruff

1. It is not necessary that dandruff be caused by a dry scalp. It can affect the oily scalp as well. This is due to the Malassezia yeast feeding on the sebum on your skin and scalp, which has been linked to seborrheic dermatitis. This problem is more prone to occur if your scalp is oily because it thrives when there is more of it present.

2. You do not have to remove flakes before shampooing. In extreme cases of dandruff, it is more likely that you will build up thickly layered flakes, which may make it difficult for you to comb. Never remove those flakes harshly. This may cause bleeding and a lot of pain. And once the scalp starts to bleed, it is most prone to infections.

3. It could be tempting to reduce how frequently you wash your hair if you believe that your dandruff is caused by a dry scalp. You should actually wash your hair fairly frequently to remove the flakes and any buildup of dirt on your scalp, regardless of whether the cause is dryness or oiliness.

4. You might believe that you should refrain from applying any styling products to your hair or scalp if you’re experiencing a flare-up of dandruff. Additionally, it’s a good idea to research the items you use to ensure they don’t irritate you. However, that doesn’t imply you should never use any styling products. You can continue to style your hair with the products you like as long as you’re washing it frequently—ideally, every day—to prevent accumulation.

5. Although dandruff doesn’t directly cause hair loss, it is linked to it, especially in people who are already experiencing some degree of hair loss or thinning. Although the connection between the two is not fully known, some specialists believe that dandruff may disrupt the normal cycle of hair shedding. It also makes sense that scratching your scalp frequently could damage your already thin hair and cause hair loss.

Closing Statement

It is not important how many times dandruff comes back; what’s important is how fast it goes away. Dandruff reasons are ‘n’ in numbers. It may be caused by the climate, food, lifestyle, etc. But, if you take proper steps each day to do the same, you may notice that it quickly fades away.
